To prevent fraud. It was common for women to get a job soon after say it was high risk be on paid absence until the baby was born and once maternity leave was about to end they would resign.

13 小時內	sistahterriclarence	I’d bet anything that what is being thought of as “fraud” is actually just a company’s inability to support their employees during pregnancy and post-partum…🤦🏾‍♀️ More like a widespread cultural practice.
