It’s about power for him. She likely threatened his feeling of power by merely existing (NOT her fault; that’s a him problem), and when she first complained, that was a challenge to him to exert his power, so she needed punished in his mind. It’s especially insidious bc we’ve seen his very texts where he was SO apologetic
