Japan has one of the highest taxes on beer in the world. It’s due to sake brewers being worried that beer would cause them issues so proper beer (over 50% malts) has a much higher tax than other alcoholic drinks. Spirits and sake are way cheaper here. Apparently next year they are equalizing the tax though so maybe it will get cheaper then? Scandinavian countries have higher alcohol tax but it’s not specifically focused on beer. 🍻
