Postpartum depression should never be a diagnosis. It’s a SYMPTOM. A biologically normal symptom of lack of support, nutrient depletion, toxin buildup, trauma + stress, and side effects of birth meds no one talks about.

As a perinatal psychiatrist I’m here to say this is woefully oversimplified. PPD can happen to anyone, even those supported. And a side effect of birth meds?! No. Site your sources. I’ll wait.

If you read this as an oversimplification, you’ve missed the mark. These are all complex and interconnected issues. And if you’re not testing women on their nutrient levels and toxin levels (with the right tests), while also addressing the complex issue of no support (practical, societal, financial, spiritual, emotional), and nervous system regulation, then you’re behind the science. ✨

When I gave birth, what I had was postpartum rage. It was my repressed rage surfacing in a big way. I was young and healthy, but I had trauma—was physically abused until my late teens.
