I have to purito my younger cat cause she freaks out. Once she is wrapped my other half distracts her with treats and i can do it so quick without her figuring out whats going on.

Started young

One of our cats is front declawed (don’t come at me, she was declawed when we adopted her) & we don’t trim her back claws. We’ve had her for 6 years & it’s never been an issue. The other one goes to the vet for it (because it was stressful for all from the time he was a kitten) & with the third it’s a 2 person operation. I hold her & my husband clips them.

Many cat owners do not clip nails at all, so long as the cat is regularly using a scratcher and the nail sheaths come off

I sit my cat on her butt on my lap like she’s a toddler and cut her claws that way. She’s a little wiggly but otherwise it’s pretty easy 😆

Leo never lets us clip his hind nails. Because he has a habit of scratching his eye lids and irritating them when we can see the 2 hinds that are most problematic we clip only what we can see while distracting him. We happen to know that he has had a smidge of arthritis in his backend for years that we treat with Glucosamine.

UPDATE: WE DID IT FOR THE FIRST TIME We waited til he was knocked out / very sleepy, and I would rest my palm under his back foot as a “ground” to prevent him from being ticklish and not moving it. Then I’d pull back the fur to expose the claw a bit and we snipped the tips off! Huge win and thanks everyone for the suggestions!
