You can’t just accept the “Israelites took the land from the Canaanites” part of the Bible as true and deny the part of the story that says “but God found a righteous man, and promised him and his offspring the land of Canaan, as long as they do all that is recorded in this book” part. Although the Jews had killed their messiah, we all kill him everytime we sin, yet he still forgives us.
