being subtly criticised by my family for not being being able to understand/speak cantonese (and mandarin to a lesser degree) even though we spoke english and singlish in the home during my entire childhood <<<< i felt bad about my second language abilities compared to that of my friends, but i realised that their parents are mainlanders/hong kongers with whom they speak in mandarin/cantonese, so the Standard Is Double!!! anyway, my english is pretty good so whatever i guess
