My mom was Jewish & she told me that it was custom for women to slap me on my cheek to welcome me to womanhood. So, at 11 years old, every one of my aunts & cousins kept hitting me all day to “celebrate” me getting my period. I’m not sure it’s the same for all Jewish women but my family was all in & I learned not to be embarrassed about my period.
