The key issue with being in 'calorie deficit' or burning more calories than you consume; Is that whilst it may be straightforward to calculate how many calories are consumed - Basically weigh & measure everything and keep a food diary.
Measuring how many calories are burnt is a lot more challenging.
Exercise almost certainly doesn't burn as many calories as once thought. Basal Metabolic rate measurements are inaccurate, and don't take into account muscle mass....
