There is a reason why we moved on from the Rhodes piano. There are reasons why we moved on from analog synths. There is a reason why we went from 8 track->cassette->mini disc->CD etc....

Yeah, the companies that make that stuff wanted to sell us new gear. I’d be willing to buy the audiophile argument if most people didn’t listen to low quality audio streams through the speaker in their phone.

There are in fact three companies making brand new Rhodes pianos, and a dozen that do restorations and overhauls. MiniMoogs are now in their third re-issue and people pay thousands of dollars for them. Your premise is flawed.

Also, there’s (good, multiple) reasons why we moved on from exes. And yet..

rhodes pianos and analog synths are still used in professional recording environments and appear on professional releases, all the time. they aren’t as common as they used to be and of course people use emulators and sample packs now too, but music has not really “moved on” from these instruments any more than it’s moved on from pianos and violins. imo the sound of specific instruments is more important than that of specific recording formats.

Ya violins, and pianos and saxophones too. Nobody plays those.
