Gym rats… what’s everyone’s favorite alternative to the barbell squat? I’m at PF so I don’t have access to barbells. Im designing the program for my next cut and want to focus on compound movements. Share your wisdom (but don’t just tell me to switch gyms)! Gym Threads

I used to use the thick resistance bands. The large ones that go under the foot and over the shoulder. Maybe because I’m a short, small person it works out for me. But these were great for garage gyms! 🤯

Most PFs have 75 lb DBs. That’s gonna be your best bet. Obviously you could squat with the smith machine but it uses less stabilizing and accessory muscles. I work for PF and I can say that while I don’t think we are getting barbells anytime soon, we are getting plate loaded machines and I’m anxious to see if any are lower body focused like a hack or pendulum squat.

If it was me, I’d just do leg press and call it a day. Maybe supplement with some walking lunges ✌🏽

Reverse lunges. DBs or KB held goblets. Makes my hr max.

Could also do some goblet squats if they've got DB's 🤷🏻‍♂️ There's a girl in our gym, plays AFL (Aussie football) who does a heal elevated version of goblet squats. Squat, step out with left leg & split squat, back to goblet squat, then right leg split squat back to goblet, etc.. Does about 4 es, then drops the weight & does another 4 or 5 es body weight! 😆

Bulgarian Split Squat is the universal answer 🙃 But Smith Machine Squats are almost as good & then there’s also Leg Press.

Goblet squats with the heaviest dumbbell or kettlebell you can hold up at chest height for a protracted period.
