In the EU, there's a law that if there is an online subscribe button, there also has to be an online cancel button. And if you sign up with any provider, they'll cancel your old contract for you and transfer your phone number. America is great as a tourist, but the more I learn about it, the less I want to live there permanently.

I had Comcast internet added to my mom’s cable while visiting her for a month. I tried cancelling before I returned home to DC. Couldn’t cancel on a Sunday night (though I could set up new service). Spent 3 days trying to cancel. On both days I had to hang up to attend meetings after 30+ minutes on phone. 3rd I had had it. First words out of my mouth: “I need to cancel a service. I don’t want to hear any offers to stay. Please just cancel the service.” 1/2

My 24yo son died. First person didn't want to talk to me because I wasn't on the account. Asked for a supervisor. This person makes several offers for him to stay.I keep repeating he died so he's not interested. Finally he tells me that is a different department. I repeat my story. New person repeats the sales offer. Then another department. 6 more 'departments '. Finally I scream into the phone 'he's dead'. That works. Then tells me I have 10 days to return the equipment or more charges.

"I'm moving out of the country, please cancel my service" seems to get past their stupid script.

Wife and I went through the same thing. I got fiber through AT&T way cheaper. Spectrum tried to offer me a free phone. When I said "no" he told me I was making a big mistake. That did it for me.
