To multiply out brackets every term in each bracket is multiplied by every term in the other. To keep track of this I was taught to use these lines, which I still find helpful:

Double distribution

(x-5)^2 = (x-5)(x-5) After you distribute you should get x^2 -5x -5x +25, and simplifying that gets you the result it said.

(x-5)^2=(x-5)(x-5) You have to multiply (x-5)(x-5)=x^2-5x-5x+25=x^2-10x+25

You gotta multiply (x-5)(x-5), you’ll have x^2 -5x-5x+25

It’s squared, so write what’s in parenthesis twice (x-5)(x-5), use FOIL method, x^2 - 5x - 5x + 25, simplify, x^2 - 10x + 25
