I have to admit that the near complete lack of response following my latest album release has me on my heels. I had the beginnings of a half dozen new songs recorded and I am having a hell of a time gaining motivation to work on anything. How do you all motivate yourselves when it becomes clear no on is listening? musicians of threads

You have to write it for yourself first and foremost. I’ve heard incredible music with barely any streams and mediocre to poor stuff I wouldn’t even save as voice note idea that has thousands if not hundreds of thousands of streams. It’s hard but you have to overlook the numbers if you don’t have a big following and low stream numbers. Streaming stats don’t dictate how good something is.

Will check it out! Here’s a twist of perspective before I add a listen: writing songs for decades, getting around to producing some & sharing, I am way behind the curve (no one to blame but me). I have a song that I’m particularly fond of, that next year, will be 30 yrs old-haven’t even come close to releasing that to the world. In contrast, you have done the right things to honour your artistic work & self. In this age of burgeoning available music, you are right in the thick of it! You go!

I feel this one! Just dropped an album and no one cares but that’s what I expected. I plan to keep releasing music to no one, trying to make each album better than the last, and one day my genius will be discovered after I’m dead.

I play my own shit and love it, I don’t really care who listens. The ones who are meant to find you, they will find you, even if it takes a little time. 🙂

Create what you think is good for you. You have no control over the response to it. The response isn’t the point. I know it feels good to have people love your art, but the point is simply to create it.

Focus on getting a handful of “super fans” or early adopters that love your genre. They’ll be your ride or dies and help promote the music as hard as you do, growing an organic marketing strategy. They’ll want to be a part of the journey with you and become like family, it’s dope. Find them and it’ll happen

You have forever to market and promote your music. Don’t give up. If you believe in the music just keep at it. Create more content, engage more on socials, get creative.

If you CAN walk away, and you’re not getting an audience, you probably should. Just quit. If you need to get motivated, that means you’re not really doing this for the music. Sounds like you should quit.

In twilight's hush, where shadows play, A maestro weeps, his heart astray, Condemned to play for empty space, A virtuoso, lost in a lonely place. He plays for none, yet plays on still, His passion pure, his soul unfulfilled, The melodies that once brought cheer, Now whisper secrets, only darkness hears. His instrument, a loyal friend, Responds to touch, till the very end, The strings vibrate, a haunting plea, A symphony for none to see

I feel your pain. I can spend a year or more on an album of 9/10 songs. I treat it like it means everything which is does , but the release garners very little interest , struggle to get reviews and I know I’m a good songwriter who’s occasionally written great stuff. I suffer with imposter syndrome so that not easy for me to say here. So its hard. Finished an album now and can’t be bothered to mix it because of the dread of release. It’s a real struggle.
