I think my major frustration with teaching in 2024 is my students’ lack of will to just TRY. “This is too hard.” “This is too boring.” “I don’t understand the characters’ names.” “I don’t know what’s happening.” Maybe - and this is just a guess, I don’t know - if you paid attention when I asked leading questions and guided you to the appropriate lines of the play and oh, I don’t know, SUMMARIZED the whole thing for you, it might not be so bad.

Some parents like mine were better raised to work than to be involved with their child. Maybe this is a case of students not willing to try because they don’t have anyone to try for. Or they simply do not see the convenience to 😭

Being unwilling “to just TRY” is a big, bright waving flag of chronic dysregulation. Extra unfortunately, idk what that means for you…because you’re a teacher, not a doctor or therapist. ☹️

Each had the daily schedule on the blackboard and I noticed that they switched to a new activity every 20 minutes. I asked what if you have a child who wants to focus for longer on something. They said they individualize materials but had far too many children to individualize the schedule. There were times when my son would focus for 2 hours on something.
