Confirmation bias parable: I once had a bike. I rode it everyday to class at the same time and locked it in the same place everyday when I got home. One day it was gone. I asked my landlord what happened to it. He said "I cut the lock and sold it because it had been locked up there for a year and never moved." I said "It was mine I rode it everyday. That's where I have been locking it for a year." He couldnt comprehend what I was saying and insisted the bike had not been moved in a year.
