Question for Christians that understand the Bible well, Jesus was crucified by the Church of his day. So were the Pharisees and church leaders of Jesus day more conservative leaning or progressive leaning?

The Pharisees were progressive, saduccees were conservative. Most of the reason for his crucifixion is politically driven, for power hungry reasons and deeply religious sentiments mingled with envy. There weren’t church leaders, there were the religious leaders that were highly influential in both religion and political thought. Jesus didn’t fit in to the Jewish narrative of a messiah as they were looking for a messiah who would be a powerful world leader who would free them from the Romans.

Jesus was the DEFINITION of conservative because he “KEPT” (observed, obeyed, lived) the law of Moses. He therefore FULFILLED the law of Moses, meaning the rituals of Judaism were no longer accepted by God. The Pharisees were progressive for 2 reasons: they “progressively” added laws, traditions, and requirements to God’s commandments. AND were a man-made priesthood who appointed THEMSELVES as experts and authorities over God’s priesthood (the Levitical priesthood). Good question though!!

They were all Jews. There's no church here.

I think what was forgotten here is the Herodians, liberal equivalent to the Pharisees who sided with the Roman government. These two groups joined hands to crucify Jesus. Both conservatives and liberals in this instance condemned the Messiah equally. We would not receive the helper, Holy Spirit, was only given to those saved by grace alone because Christ was crucified. We must stop relating our time to how it was meant to be read. If you’ve seen Him, you have seen The Father.
