While bagging my Korean mom’s groceries, the cashier started shouting at me to stop stealing the woman’s food. I’m about 8 or 9 I resemble my mom (besides some extra melanin & coils) & was just a child, but she thought I was stealing the food my mom was buying us. Needless to say, I was confused & embarassed. I shrank & cried but my mom immediately let the cashier know about herself. Matter of fact, I’m sure the entire grocery store heard her and she offered hands to anyone with an issue 👏🏽.

I live in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood and people always assume she is Mexican or Dominican. The nurses would not allow him into the nursery to see me because I came out very fair skinned. Happened a 2nd time when my mom was flying home with me from Germany to the US.
