Today my daughter had a meltdown over her homework. Her homework was to “write funny sentences, all words starting with the same letter”. Admitted, she had had a rough day, and this task was what pushed her over the edge. But what was the thing she struggled with? The word “funny”. No matter what sentences my partner suggested, none of them were funny to her, and therefore not good enough. And this is just one situation out of many. 1/2

I get overwhelmed and freeze up. My partner thankfully knows to 1) validate that whatever wording I’m stuck on is not meant to be taken literally, 2) helps me find the “close enough” answer, and 3) reassure and validate me that I’m not “lying” and nothing bad is going to happen.
