A great NYC story: In the 1960s Robert Moses wanted to ram an elevated highway across Manhattan to connect the Lincoln Tunnel to the Queens-Midtown Tunnel. To get the project going he acquired and demolished a parcel on the corner of E.29th St. and 2nd Ave.
When the highway plan thankfully died, the corner lot sat vacant. Eventually it became a bare-bones playground in park-starved Kips Bay.
