A great NYC story: In the 1960s Robert Moses wanted to ram an elevated highway across Manhattan to connect the Lincoln Tunnel to the Queens-Midtown Tunnel. To get the project going he acquired and demolished a parcel on the corner of E.29th St. and 2nd Ave. When the highway plan thankfully died, the corner lot sat vacant. Eventually it became a bare-bones playground in park-starved Kips Bay. (1/2)

The plan to fix it up was complicated by the fact that it’s still owned by the Triboro Bridge and Tunnel Authority (!) and not the Parks Dept. After years of bureaucratic wrangling and a $1.5m investment, at last yesterday we cut the ribbon on a fully renovated playground. It’s beautiful. Check it out! And think about Robert Moses’ failed plan when you do. (2/2)

5 小時內	Margaret Hurley gammyhurley	Also part of that plan which did get completed was making the interchange of the BQE and the LIE a double decker highway from 43rd Street in LICity to Maurice Ave. in Maspeth. In the process over 100 homes were taken by right of eminent domain and a lovely neighborhood called Laurel Hill was leveled and families displaced. FU to Robert Moses.
