I have a boy. And he is mixed race. But what I also worry about is the online influencers for example Rogan, Tate, Fuentes etc that will brainwash him and his generation like how they did with the Gen Z male population. It’s a constant worry how to teach him that being a kind, considerate man doesn’t make you a simp.

Something I learned is a privilege (as a white woman with white kids) recently is my ability to choose age appropriate discussions about race with my kids, and how mothers of Black children aren't often afforded that. A Black woman suggested this author to me, so I'm reading her book and will be discussing it with my 13yo son and reevaluating what age appropriate really means.

My oldest and I are watching Star Trek: The Original Series. We have lots of discussions about race and sexuality through the characters of Sulu and Uhura. We also talked yesterday about the colonial mindset of the British in the episode, "The Squire of Gothos". We gasped when Kirk introduced Uhura as, "Lt. Uhura, Communications Officer" and the antagonistic Trelane goes, "A Nubian? Did you get her on a raid or.." The daggers her eyes shot out!
