My single American healthcare experience is nothing compared to others but, as a Brit, it was eye-opening. My son was 3 years old and we were visiting family in the USA. It was clear to me that something was wrong with him. He had a fever and was crying and distressed. The family members refused to acknowledge anything was wrong and wouldn't take us to the doctor until I threw a tantrum. He had an ear infection. A bad one.
