Years ago I lost my job because I called 911 for a pregnant women who slipped on ice outside our building and compound fractured her leg. Two of us helped her. We were both pregnant and both got fired. However, we both supported the woman when she sued the owner of the business we worked at. He had not shoveled not put salt down to treat the ice. She was coming in to the building. He tried to say it was her fault because she did not have boots on.

I am not an attorney. I am a Paramedic who has instructed CPR classes for many years. Good Samaritan laws cover individuals who do the right thing and reduce liability. While you husband did not have the duty to act, he absolutely did the right thing. The employer should embrace his act and publically praise his actions.

Sue them for $25 million for the emotional trauma your family suffered. The only way to fix the stupidity lawyers have brought to society.

Okay, I’ll break it down in corporate language: Insurance companies have a rule “look, report, don’t touch”. If your husband broke the ribs of the person he saved during CPR, and they sued, the underwriter’s of the company (the people who shell out money) would have to pay out a hearty amount of money. It’s easier just to get rid of the little guy who isn’t under the insurance coverage blanket. The people who are on the recovery team aren’t trained for a reason. 👇

Call the local news and papers. Local webpages too. Make him a hero.

My friend is an anesthesiologist. We talk about this. He said he doesn’t exactly know how he would respond in an emergency outside of his hospital because if he does “nothing” he’s in the clear. If he does something and it goes wrong it comes back against him in an instant lawsuit, insurance for years of his life. Our country sucks. Good Samaritan laws don’t apply given his training. Aside: I believe your husband is NOT legally required to offer aid.

In Australia if you provide first aid in this scenario there would be zero ramifications. I'm guessing this is the greatest country on earth aka the land of the free aka lawyers before care USA

In Canada we have a "Good Samaritan" act in each Province so that if you render aid to a person in distress, as long as your actions aren't grossly negligent, you are not liable and cannot be successfully sued if it doesn't end up well for the sick/injured person.
