Yea it’s New York but they don’t have the experiences and culture of NYC. If they did there would be no debate. When you leave the city things begin to change considerably and you realize the reach of the city doesn’t extend much past Westchester county. Much of this debate is because of the name sharing. we say ny short for nyc so if you say you from ny we assuming you talking bout the city not upstate .. cus if and when we HAVE to talk about upstate we say upstate not upstate ny . so if you having a conversation with a nyer and say you from ny and then say somewhere upstate we gonna tell you thats not ny . obviously we know it is ny but its just not ny in our definition bc we call the city ny and upstate upstate
