Absolutely the truth.

This winter marks 13 years I’ve owned this house. My mother has never seen it. She still complains that I don’t visit enough. (And for anyone who thinks, “Well you’re the one who moved away!” my mother left me with my dad when I was four and I spent my entire childhood being shipped back and forth for summer vacations to wherever she was living that year).

No one in my family has visited me in 8 years. I live in Seattle and they are all on the East Coast. My friends have been to Seattle more than my family has. Unless it’s something important, I refuse to travel home. My sister finally said that she’s never visiting me here, not cause she can’t afford it but because she doesn’t want to.

When my stepfather passed away in 2020 my Mum expected me (6.5hrs drive away) or my brother (3hrs drive away) to come fortnightly to take her to the supermarket as she didn’t like online deliveries and refused to pay for a taxi to get herself to the shops. Between us we managed for almost 3 years. It was exhausting.
