So if the sun is constantly shining, why doesn't it melt all the ice and snow?

Snow reflects the sun rays. So there is little to no energy transmission.

Worst sunburn I ever got was a full day of spring skiing in Utah mountains. Not only was the sun hitting me from above, but it was reflecting off the snow. It was also much easier to affect my small body than it was to affect an entire frozen mountain. The ground temperature has a LOT to do with how long it takes ice and snow to melt.

Literally because the earth is a sphere. The equator is closer to the sun than any other place on earth because it’s like a bump. The further away you are the colder it gets I thought that was common knowledge. Also the sun is constantly at an angle so most of the heat bounces off the ground. Might also be connected to our magnetic field but I’m not sure about that
