Mine is 100% ashkenazi Jewish so um that makes me Jewish (which I already knew) and my kids have a father who’s in no way Jewish and they’re yep half Jewish and we’re all atheist. Please don’t gatekeep cultural identity.

Can’t have it both ways mate - Judaism is either just a religion or a religion as well as an ethnicity and you can’t change that when it suits you. If you want to go down the ethnicity route then you have to accept that people in fact can be ‘half Jewish’.

I have Ashkenazi dna. I know where it comes from. I also know why my family is not Jewish, my ancestors fled during the pogroms. Only the UK was also pretty antisemitic. The trail goes as far as my grandfather, who changed his name in 1939, thus erasing what was left of his heritage.

I have Ashkenazi roots but I’m not ‘Jewish’. My dna test confirmed the Ashkenazi part. But it’s a low percentage and it doesn’t mean I’ve started adopting the Jewish faith or anything else. It just means it confirms my mother’s birth name and origin story. It hasn’t made me a different person.

I did a DNA test around 10 years ago now and it came back that I'm around 5% Ashkenazi Jewish. Not surprising since my grandmother was born in Macedonia, so historically there's probably someone Jewish in our past. Never occurred to me to claim to be Jewish myself, honestly 😂
