I was at Michael’s yesterday and a woman called the store and the manager had the phone on speaker. The woman said she bought a Christmas tree on Black Friday and they were having issues with the lights, so she wanted to know the refund policy. The manager told her to bring the tree back to the store and they would refund her. 🧵1/2

🧵2/2 Then she goes “well the problem is we already have it up and decorated. We don’t want to undecorate it, bring it to the store, get a new one, bring it home and redecorate it when Christmas is next week. Can’t I just get a refund and keep the tree?” I cannot comprehend the level of entitlement.

My issue is with the manager having an incoming call on speaker.

A couple years ago I worked at Michaels for 3 days. It was during the holidays and I was just supposed to be helping people find stuff and putting stuff away. Then I got called to help at the register. I hadn't been trained on the register. I start ringing stuff up and EVERYTHING is ringing up 75% off lol. "Was that on sale?" Yes, it sure was. lol.

I worked in retail for a couple of years. A man came in one day with a pair of shoes. He bought four years prior. He wanted to return them and get his full price back. He wore them every single day and it showed. I said no he called corporate. They called me. He got his money. We’re not talking in upscale boutique or super high-quality shoe brand. We’re talking Marshalls.

Lady returned 8 Christmas trees to a large dept store in Florida. Obviously used. I will never forget her finger pointing at me declaring “you” Will take these back. Called the manager. She literally had a party at her house, decorated said house and then returned all the decorations, including trees. Chafing dishes. Dishes. All was returned. And you wonder (?) why prices keep going up? Entitlement doesn’t even cover it. Working retail during the holidays, the stories we can tell!

As a retail veteran, the level of entitlement doesn't surprise me at all. What bothers me more is when managers agree to their demands for the sake of keeping a customer. Um, at that point, they're no longer a customer, they're a parasite.

Stood in line at customer service at Publix after a hurricane. Lady in front of me returned over 20 bottles of water, toilet paper up the wazoo and batteries. All I could think was, “oh, you were the entitled one who took wasaaaay more than your share and lots of us went without.”
