Why do Americans call the element denoted as Al: aluminum? Do they also refer to other elements as He: helum, Li: lithum, Be: beryllum, Na: sodum, Mg: magnesum, K: potassum and Ca: calcum? (I could go on, but my spell checker now hates me…)
