It’s so hard to have basic conversation anymore without being called a racist and old lady or anything else. Enjoy that diamond member status.

basic conversation shouldn't be from a point of presuming the other person is new to first class. If you think it's okay to be a prude in public then I can't really help you.

Basic convo? Unsolicited advice isn’t basic convo. Hello. Good morning. That’s basic when sitting next to a stranger. Also, She said older lady. Not old lady.

I mean, there’s so many basic conversations to have - unsolicited ‘advice’ to a person whose life you don’t know shouldn’t be on the list. 🫡

Dunno. If you're finding it hard to interact without being called a racist it might be time to dig deep and work out what you're doing or saying to be thought of as a racist. Even people who think they aren't racists have work to do. We need to be pro actively anti-racist every day not just passively not racist

How was that comment a basic conversation? A basic conversation is hi, how are you? Not a remark that assumes the person doesn’t normally fly first class. I’m white - I’m willing to bet the woman wouldn’t have made the same comment to me and I’ve only flown first class when I was lucky to be bumped up.

Basic convo: "do you often fly first class?" (Assume the more positive) Or "how often do you often fly first class?" (Assume nothing) Or "I love first class. They hang our coats for us and everything" (own your perspective and let the other person relate without assumptions). It's not that hard. & As a white lady, I'm glad this was pointed out cuz it's a good reminder that assumptions have bigger impacts for some ppl if coming from me. Renewing my consideration during small talk.

No one called her a racist. “Old white lady” is a description.
