Why? It isn’t based on mortgage. I owned my unit free and clear and rent was set to market rate.

Rents are based on many factors, such as location, amenities and market value, not what the landlord paid or owes on the property.

It should???? You’re wanting “cost plus” pricing when no one ever in the history of the u.s. has said that’s how it works. Never has. Never will. Housing is set at MARKET PRICING, not cost plus pricing. How is this a difficult concept? We are a MARKET economy. The market sets the pricing and what the investor/owner has tied up in their property has literally ZERO to do with the market pricing.

I agree to a point tbh. If a mortgage on a properly is say £600 a month and the landlord is charging £1200, you cannot tell me that it’s simply because it’s in a decent area with good amenities etc. For those saying don’t like it buy somewhere, how is anyone meant to save when they’re paying off someone else’s mortgage for them? Price gouging should be/is illegal. But no way should landlord have to divulge their mortgage. Any more than any other business has to provide detailed info on what production costs.

When you buy a pizza from a pizza shop, are you entitled to know how much all the ingredients and labor was to make that pizza? This is such a weird thing to think renters are entitled to. However, landlords are required to be the ones to keep up with the land. If they aren’t, then that part should be illegal.

So rent becomes free once the building is paid off right?
