In 2024, almost 25, why has the NHS not yet embraced electronic communications? Care would be sorted so much faster if we weren't dependent on letters being delivered.

I get all my hospital letters and appointments electronically, on the NHS app.

There are still many (elderly) patients who don't have or don't look at email or mobile phones. I have to monitor my parents' email to make sure that they don't miss appointments and it feels very intrusive.

NHSScotland is pretty much all electronic so it can be done > also they only send letters out to patients now due to digital exclusion and too much going to junk. Parts of Engald have an app to assist with that apparently but trials are patchy again due to digital exclusion of many

From my understanding, It's a huge organisation and technology has improved so fast that it costs too much to constantly keep pace. Also originally everyone decided on their own choice of systems which unfortunately don't work with each other. I do believe they are trying to remedy this by using the NHS app as a area that in the future all the separate services can be accessed from.

All ours are electronic, both where I live and where I work. This includes outcome letters, test results, appointments!

It seems to be a muddle of both. I've had some communications by letter, text and app. Others not at all (usually because the letter has been delayed in the post)

The NHS was deliberately underfunded by the CONservative government of the last 14 years to encourage us all to go private. When talking about money for the NHS they always said that they were spending more on health than ever before. This being a trick that allowed them to give our tax money to private health companies. From the NHS's point of view, they are a very lean organisation that had no money to spend updating various IT systems over the last 12 years, so didn't.

It kinda does... But I'm curious about the question. Why doesn't the NHS.......?? Now stop and think about it - why doesnt the NHS do X Y or even Z anything? Might it be 14 years of Tory underfunding?? Maybe spending dosh on dunno saving life's kinda takes priority 🙃 Why don't Tech developers gift such stuff to the NHS??

Various systems installed depending on the location (And Health Trust) that can’t communicate with each other. Also security of personal information over the internet. Nothing is supposed to be shared on social media.
