😂I was told today that I’m “too pretty to be a gay” by some Christian girl. Some of the other things she said to me: “As a girl it’s your natural instinct to be with a man and have his children, and it’s selfish of me to not do that” “You’re going to hell” “If you are gay just buy a … toy of the same gender instead of being in a relationship” She kept calling me “same gender liker” and gay, as if it was offensive. I told her it was an astute observation. And it’s really sad for her. Here’s why🧵

I don’t think people realize that things like this drive people away from religion, which could be a useful coping mechanism for some. I'd just tell her that at ultimately God isn't going to ask her about your sins... he'll be asking her about hers..So she should be concerned with that instead.

As an ex-Christian I know a few people who were the same way until they realized their internalized homophobia came from their parents. They were negative about it because they didn’t want to disappoint or “sin.” It’s so crazy that a religion that’s supposed to “love thy neighbor” and be welcoming is so hateful to people who aren’t like them. That’s why I left. Been agnostic ever since.

Like I attend and am involved in an Episcopal church. But if people ask me what I'm doing there I say "I see the Mass as a form of High Magick. And I believe Jesus is a form of Shiva and Mary is a form of Kali." And since Episcopalians are pretty open-minded, they usually shrug and are like "cool, tell me more."😊
