I'm 100% convinced that I got my Autism from my maternal grandfather who had an insane coin collection and was the most particular human about the state of his grass.

I’m convinced my maternal grandfather is patient zero for us. The man who emigrated to America in 1929 and was back in Scotland by 1932 because nah not for me. He worked in steelworks and ironworks and couldn’t cope with his hands being dirty or sticky. In foundries 😂😂

I have a little brother who is autistic. My mom has sensory issues whether it’s food or certain fabrics lol I tell her all the time she’s on the spectrum. I think I am too 😭 certain noises bother the HELL outta me, my routine has to be the same everyday or I just don’t feel right 😭

The more I hear about autism being inherited, the more I think my dad could be the culprit, but he's in his 70s and I don't see him enough to educate him so I just try to throw things out to him that might help me or him sometimes. Or say to myself, he does it because it's how his brain is, he's not trying to be malicious (many issues with communication and tone that I've given up trying to get him better with, I'll just cope)

Those supposed refrigerator mothers blamed in the 50s? Probably were autistic, too. And, you know, not refrigerators.

every time i mention one of our family’s NDs (there’s sooooo much, all undiagnosed, but you can just sit there and make the web connections b/t all of us in 3 diff generations) my mother looks as i’ve slapped her in the face, clutches her pearls and asks me what the hell i’m talking about. it’s all so glaringly obvious

One of my exes would tilt one of my pictures hanging on the wall just to wait and see how long it would take for me to straighten it back to level. 🤷‍♀️

I am high functioning autistic and wasn't diagnosed until I was 52 (I'm 65). Since my diagnosis, I've read tons about autism, watched videos, gone to autism conferences, and talked with autistic people and parents. The general consensus is that the predisposition for autism is genetic (inherited); however, some outside force "triggers" the child's brain to develop differently (autistic) between the age of 18 and 36 months. Without the trigger, the person's brain development would be normal. 1/2

It has been proven it’s not through vaccines. There might be a genetic component, but it hasn’t been found yet. I’m on the spectrum & the only others are related through our maternal Grandmother/Great-grandmother. The only other diagnosed person is related through our great-great-grandparents (no one lived to even know who else was on the spectrum. ADHD is not always found with Spectrum diagnosis. Sometimes, it’s all on its own. The behaviors can be learned too, so sometimes, it’s just that.
