Would like to put out there that both my SIL and I have had Rover sitters agree to stay with our puppies on long trips only to find out that they were at best just spending a few hours at our house. Last year we came home and the bed had not been slept in, so we checked the Ring camera and our guy had been coming for a couple of hours in the morning and at night but didn’t sleep once at our place. I literally sobbed when I realized how much of my puppies’ week had been spent in the kennel. 1/3

Our dogs are used to having people around basically 24/7 so that’s what we paid for. When we had to leave again for a different trip I thought I’d have a panic attack but we did use Rover again just someone with more reviews. We were crystal clear about expectations both times but the second sitter actually did what she said she would. Anyways, if you’re using Rover, just make sure you have some way to monitor that your sitter is doing what they said they would! 2/3

We’ve only used them once but didn’t have time issues. They were here roughly when they said they would be. We have external Ring cameras so we’re able to check. But they did use my toilet bowl brush FILTHY and kitchen messy.

I would never use Rover. The only people out there are the ones Petsitting agency’s won’t hire.

I'm sorry that happened to you. Is there any recourse through the service? I have a wonderful pet sitter who stays the entire time and I still have a camera i check daily. Its pointed near the food bowl and back door. I hope you can find a local trust worthy person.

This is terrible to hear! I’ve used Rover in the past and was a sitter and dog walker with them for a couple of years just to make some extra cash and it’s horrifying to hear that people would do this. There were some occasions where I did have to pop in and out because of my job but I always tried to spend as much time with the pets as I could.

2 months with our 1 yr old rescue lab, we unexpectedly had to fly to NY for my ex-MIL medical emergency. One of the rescue gals recommended her dog sitter: glowing reviews, only $30/day. Omg. We came home to a river of dog pee and 4 piles of poop in our home gym (the only waterproof flooring we had, my poor baby!) I looked up ADT entry/exit times, she was only coming around every 12 hours. I was LIVID. We learned the hard way, next door neighbor's college kid is our ONLY sitter.

Try using Trusted Housesitters! I’ve used it for years with my cats and have only had great experiences. They do background checks, require multiple recommendations, etc. highly recommend.

I mean, if these were responsible people who are good employees, they'd have real jobs and not be trying to pay the bills from a dog sitting app

Trusted House Sitters stay in your home 100% of the time. I’m thinking of making this my retirement job!

I'm not saying what that person did was good but how much are you paying your pet sitter to stay at the house all day and all night? If it's only $75 a day you probably need to think about upping it. people can't live on $75/day. I expect my dog sitter to stay most of the day and every night and I pay her $225 a day. That seems fair to me and to her. If you pay only $75 a day divided by that by 24 hours that's only $3 an hour to stay with your pets. Pet owners don't pay their sitters enough.
