My two cents. I learned on studio constant (hot) light. Even though strobes have modeling lights, they are often not really bright enough to see what is going on ( and you need a flash meter). Learning on constant light will make the transition to strobs easier. And no one says you can't light constant and fill with a pop of flash.

Strobes or even speedlights are trial by fire. You can look at videos to get the mechanics but until you’re continually using them, building up a familiarity, it’s gonna be hard to wrap your head around. Buy used/ what you can afford. A lot of good stuff on the market. If you have friends in photography it’s best to get similar equipment to share and/or troubleshoot. If it doesn’t already come with a bowens mount, get an adapter. There is a ton of cost-friendly gear out there for the platform.

I use both depending on what look I want. Strobes are more powerful, more versatile I guess but I love seeing exactly what the light is doing when I move it around with constant. LED has improved alot and I often shoot portraits with them but for the cleanest shots or for movement I go with flash. Lighting, constant or otherwise takes time to master either way.
