Book clubs are hard. Everybody wants to be in one. Fewer people want to read the book. Even fewer want to sit down and talk about it. Bookthreads

The worse is when you invite the author and two people show up and they didn’t read the book.

This! I just started an in person one and have 28 people in the FB group but only 7 show up to meetings, and even fewer read the book :/ everyone romanticizes it and the person running it usually ends up feeling like the effort isn’t worth it anymore

My book club has been together almost 15 years. All the folks who didn’t want to read and discuss left a long time ago. We meet every six weeks.

People want community now more than ever. Having said that, society has minimized the value of books. I run a book club at my company and it’s one of everyone’s favorite parts of working here. We carve out time in team meetings for book club chat. I love book club.
