Ummm…if you’re baby is verbal and or is hearing, please make sure they know their name. I called pre-k babies first names today who only respond to their middle name. Or they are listening for “chunky”, “mommy’s stinky”, or “man man” and not responding to their actual name.

When he started school, the principal started calling him one of those common nicknames and it took him a while to realize he was talking to him. (He doesn’t mind being called other names, and we don’t mind it, that’s one of the things that comes with the territory of the name we chose.)

12 小時內	Andrea andernina	My grandma was strict about no nicknames on kids for this reason. My cousin’s 3 kids had nicknames that were unrelated to their legal names. The adults realized there was an issue when the oldest had a meltdown, adamant that his little sisters’ names were “Happy & Smiley” and he was “Bubba.” A lot of discoveries came from that one situation.

Then i realized we mainly called my son the shortened version of his name. The times he would respond is when we called him “Mink”. When i called his first name he didn’t respond nor would he look at me & i thought he was ignoring me. I made sure to now only call him his first name & to teach him “my name is Minkah” he learned that at 1. He’s now a month into being 2 years old.
15 小時內	Jéri jeri_teaches	During my first year of teaching it took MONTHS for Lil Mama to respond when her first name was called. A few years later, for count day, I had to practice for a few days to ensure Lizzie, Cate, Billy, and Jack all knew their names. I don't miss those days 😆
