My brother is currently attending the high school I graduated from 10 years ago. He recently told me that they aren’t allowed to ask their teacher- the teacher who is standing right in front of them- to use the restroom. Instead, they have to make a request on their laptop and someone in the office will approve their request when there are no more than 2 students in the halls. If they’re not back in 8 minutes, they send security to go find them. This is a school of over 2,000 students.

9 小時內	samtke423	I’m a high school teacher and I think this is a terrible way to manage hallway traffic. At my school, teachers are told in general to only let one student out of class at a time but to use our professional judgment.

Everyone just collectively said “no” and we completely stopped even asking as a courtesy. We started just leaving class whenever we had to go because like… there’s already aids posted up in every breezeway, tf were we gonna do? Even the teachers said “Yeah, this is stupid. You guys don’t even need to ask anymore, just go. It makes it easier for everyone.”

11 小時內	Jen López jenl987	I've used the e-hallpass system. It was helpful for tracking patterns, and because it was easy to forget during a 100-minute class who was out. Requests came to me, the teacher, and I approved them. There was a limit of 5 (?) kids per restroom - if there were 5 passes to the same restroom at the same time, it would not allow any more requests until kids returned.
11 小時內	Renee Kessler Groves sayheyrenee90	We have a system like this called smart pass. Its stops kids who’ve had issues in the past from being out of separate rooms at the same time. It also allows us to run reports to show if kids are doing it multiple times a day and have become habitual for leaving the classroom unnecessarily. It knows which kids are out of the classroom if there are emergencies, fire drills or lockdowns.

There was truly no winning. One of the many reasons I'm no longer a teacher.
