Yeah we’re finicky with guns because, like Australia, we decided our one school mass shooting was one too many and most of our politicians agreed. Because that’s how grown ups behave.

My daughter ( Brit married to a septic ) living in Florida. When my granddaughter has a play date , she always asks if there weapons in the house, if so are they secured before she lets the little ones go to a friends house.

'Finicky'.. 🤣 No. We can be finicky about lots of things, to be fair. Decent tea, apostrophes, whether cream or jam goes on a scone first, pronunciation of the word 'scone'... But we're pretty relaxed and agreed that deadly weapons are something to restrict and not play around with.

I can testify as a British person that yes, I am extremely finicky with things that could kill me and the people around me.

It’s because Americans have come to associate freedom with an absence of responsibility, and justice with getting their way. That is, we’ve allowed the worst of individualism to consume civic life. True story. I commented to an American that if we saw a person walking down a Canadian street fully armed with a semiautomatic rifle and Kevlar vest, our police would respond with the SWAT team (ERT in Canada). The well educated person (doctorate level) said that Canada must be a dictatorship. No reasoning with crazy.

As an American, I can say that not all of us carry guns. Most of us don't own a gun, nor do we have any desire to own one. According to polls by Pew, Harvard, and Northwestern, "only" 22% of Americans are gun owners. Some of these people live out in the country and use their guns to hunt for food. Some are people who have guns for protection (for whatever reason). And some are fanatical morons. There's a man who goes to my grocery store with a gun strapped to his waste. (1/3)

Many of us Americans don’t understand Americans either.

As a Brit living amongst them after 9/11 a vast majority of born here Americans seriously became unhinged the proof of that is Trump. They’re a very unwell bunch.
