The Goodwills here only pay $10.75 and you don’t get enough hours. Yet the CEO makes how much?

Give your stuff away for free on free Facebook Groups in your area! That way regular people can profit, not corporations!!

Oh I always just dump my garbage at goodwill. They get a busted toaster, I get a tax write off.

There are Buy Nothing groups in many cities, on Facebook. Donate stuff to your neighbors. Trust me, they want your stuff.

They also have (or had at least) "Goodwill Boutique" brick and mortar shops that sold a lot of the designer clothing, bags, shoes etc that had been donated, and the prices were crazy. Like jeans that retail for $200 brand new they were selling for $125 used. There were two in Portland that I know of but idk if they still exist.

Selling items that are valuable in order to fund the charity isn’t limited to Goodwill. It’s the industry norm. As their primary goal, thrift/item charities aren’t operating up provide affordable goods (much of it is resold by resellers/pickers vs staying in a community) but to find programming. They’re not optimal, but for example in NC they’re the primary employer for transitional work for felons reintegrating, women escaping DV, recovering addicts - and others most employers won’t hire.

IDGAF what Goodwill does with items i donate to them, it was clogging space in my house & otherwise going to the landfill.. on 1 hand yall say when you give something away, you have no say in what the recipient does with it- unless its Goodwill.. take that damn tax receipt & move on

I love my Goodwill and the people that work there. They promote from within. They train people with skills. I’ve watched several people in my community start out at Goodwill and get the skills and training and move on and a few of them are moving up the Goodwill ladder. Is that not a good thing?

I think it’s common among nonprofits to pay lower wages and provide great benefits. If you have only so much money in the budget for employee compensation, workers get more by receiving good medical/dental insurance, transportation vouchers, etc., that they don’t have to pay taxes on than getting higher wages, which are taxed.
